Purchasing Officer at DHL Express Bahrain


To co-ordinate with all of Bahrain Country Office's suppliers and to oversee purchases and develop new contracts with suppliers and to ensure the appropriate provision of all equipment and supplies. The purchasing officer will play a key role in procuring high-quality and cost-efficient supplies. And will follow procurement procedures, maintain an updated list of inventory and incoming purchases and supplies, and be responsible for all activities relating to procurement and contract management.
Accountabilities
  • Requesting quotations for all local purchases.
  • Estimating and establishing cost parameters and budgets for purchases.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases and pricing.
  • Create and maintain good relationships with vendors/suppliers.
  • Maintain records of purchases, pricing, and other important data.
  • Review and analyze all vendors/suppliers, supply, and price options.
  • Develops plans for purchasing equipment, services and supplies.
  • Negotiate the best deal for pricing and supply contracts.
  • Ensure that the products and supplies are high quality.
  • Create and maintain inventory of all incoming and current supplies.
  • Maintain and update list of suppliers and their qualifications, delivery times, and potential future development.
  • Use of company purchasing system “Basware Purchase Management Client” to enter all details relating to purchases and issuance of all Local Purchase Orders (LPOs).
  • Preparing a summary of all LPOs issued.
  • Checking invoices against all issued LPOs.
  • Maintaining the calibration records of all weighing scales.
  • Arranging for any Office maintenance to be carried out.
  • Ensuring that all Office equipment maintenance contracts are adhered to so that all office equipment functions properly.
  • Preparing Excel spreadsheets and printing airway bills.
  • Other duties as and when required by Management.

Nature and Scope
1) Context
This role concerns dealing with all of Bahrain Country Office suppliers, ensuring that the best possible price is obtained and making sure that the relevant company maintains all office equipment to a high standard.

4) Problem Solving
Resolving any equipment problems quickly to maintain the service levels of Bahrain Country Office.

5) Decision Making
Deciding the most appropriate supplier to be used based upon price, quality and service levels.

6) Planning and Organization
Maintain accurate records of our equipment and maintenance contracts. Ensuring that all LPOs are approved and paid on time.

7) Position Challenge
Ensuring that all departments have functioning equipment and coordinating with our various suppliers to make sure that BAH-CO is capable of maintaining its service levels.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Arabic speaking is an advantage
  • Excellent organizational ability
  • Good computer skills
  • Excellent Project and time management ability
  • Sound knowledge of procurement procedures and systems
  • Good understanding of contracts
  • High school degree or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or related field preferred
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of procurement processes, policy, and systems
  • Two (2) years previous experience as procurement officer or related position
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook,
    and Excel)
  • Ability to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions
  • Ability to negotiate, establish, and administer contracts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail
  • Ability to work well with management and staff at all levels
